The Robert E. Howard Foundation is proud to announce that this year’s REHF Scholarship has been awarded to Chase Rutland, a graduating senior from Cross Plains High School who is college-bound this fall. The $2,000 scholarship was presented on May 5th during the school’s annual Awards Ceremony.
Representing the Foundation, Paul Herman traveled to Cross Plains to personally hand out the scholarship. He was joined by fellow donors seated in the center of the gymnasium as the community came together to celebrate the accomplishments of its students.
One particularly touching moment came during the event when the school’s band director, just a few presenters after Paul, made a surprise announcement: the theme for next year’s halftime marching band program will be “Conan the Barbarian”—a tribute to Robert E. Howard and the lasting impact of his legacy on the town of Cross Plains.
As Paul noted in his reflections afterward, this gesture highlights how deeply Howard’s presence is felt in his hometown, and how the Foundation’s efforts continue to resonate with the local community.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Chase Rutland and wish him great success in his academic journey!
