Anniversaries & Highlights
120 Years of Robert E. Howard
Howard Days 2026 marks the 120th anniversary of Howard’s birth. The traditional Friday Hot Dog Lunch will include birthday cake and ice cream in his honor.
40 Years of Howard Days
In 1986, a small group led by Rusty Burke traveled to Cross Plains to honor Howard’s legacy. That gathering became the foundation of what is now an international celebration.
The 40th Anniversary Guest of Honor is Rusty Burke.
Special Guest: Bill Cavalier (“Indy”).
30th Anniversary Screening
The Whole Wide World turns 30. A special screening is planned with screenwriter Michael Scott Myers and cast member Ben Mouton, along with a discussion panel.
60 Years of Conan the Adventurer (Lancer, 1966)
The 1966 Lancer paperback Conan the Adventurer, featuring the iconic Frank Frazetta cover, helped ignite the great Howard revival of the late 20th century. Its 60th anniversary is recognized during this year’s celebration.
The Museum & Project Pride
Howard Days is made possible through the continued work of the Robert E. Howard Foundation and Project Pride of Cross Plains.
The Robert E. Howard House—now more than a century old—requires ongoing restoration and preservation. Information about the Museum and Project Pride’s efforts can be found here:

Cross Plains Public Library
Cross Plains Public Library plays a central role in Howard Days and houses an extensive Howard collection, including original manuscripts, pulp magazines, and rare editions, many of which are displayed during the event.
REHupa & the Legacy of Fandom
The Robert E. Howard United Press Association (REHupa) remains an important part of Howard Days. It was REHupans who first organized the early pilgrimage to Cross Plains that led to the creation of the annual celebration.
