Project PRIDE Awarded $50,000 Preservation Grant for the Robert E. Howard House

November 6, 2026
Project PRIDE has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Texas Preservation Trust Fund, administered by the Texas Historical Commission, for the preservation of the Robert E. Howard House in Cross Plains, Texas.
The Robert E. Howard House is a National Register-listed historic property and public museum. Howard lived and wrote in the house from 1919 until 1936, producing the works that established the heroic fantasy genre, including the Conan the Cimmerian stories.
The grant will fund structural stabilization and major restoration work on the house, performed in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Work is expected to begin in early 2027.
Project PRIDE thanks the Robert E. Howard Foundation and the many donors who have contributed to the preservation of this nationally significant literary site.
